Information About Haridwar
Haridwar is famous as being the very place, blessed by the trinity of Lord
Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma and it is also one of the major Shaktipeeths. The
holy river Ganga, which flows down the mountains, enters the plains at Haridwar.
The Ganges becomes quite and calm here, and people begin taking bath on the
ghats built on the river banks. It is believed that a holy dip in Ganga here,
purifies the soul and opens the way for the Nirvana, the ultimate freedom.
According to Hindu belief, Haridwar is the land that was sanctified by the
footprints of the Lord. Associated with both Shiva and Vishnu, it is believed
to have been the placeHaridwar where Sati (Shiva’s consort) consigned
herself to the sacrificial fire. The terrible tandava (dance of destruction)
performed by Shiva in grief led to Vishnu dismembering Sati’s body,
with the different parts scattering across India. Besides its pre-eminence
in Hindu texts, Haridwar other claims to fame is its mention by the Chinese
traveller Hiuen Tsang and its invasion by the plundering troops of Timur Lame.
The pilgrimage town of Haridwar lies in the state of Uttaranchal in the northern
part of India. The city retrieved between the Gangetic Plain and the Himalayan
Mountains is among the seven holy cities of Hindus.he holy Haridwar city,
also known as the 'Gateway to the Gods', basks on the banks of the Ganges
River and is the entry point to the sacred Dev Bhoomi and the venerable Char
Dham, the celebrated pilgrimage quartet of ancient India that includes the
Gangotri and the Yamunotri glaciers as well as Kedarnath and Badrinath.

Road : The N.H - 45, passed through the Haridwar city, so the city is well-connected to major cities and towns of India. Regular buses from Delhi are available. The state transport and private buses run to nearby destinations. The distance of some important places from Haridwar are Delhi (214 Kms), Rishikesh (24 Kms), Dehradun (52 Kms), Meerut (129 Kms) and Saharanpur (81 Kms)
