Almora was founded by Raja Kalyan of Chand Dynasty in 1560 AD. Almora is a town
in the shape of a horse shoe perched on a 5 km long mountain range in between
the river Kosi and Suyal. Almora can be traced back to ancient times of Mahabharata.
However, the earliest historical account of the place is provided by a Chinese
pilgrim of seventh century. The pilgrim wrote in great detail about a kingdom
called ‘Brahmaputra’. Brahmaputra was situated in the hills and surrounded by
snow clad mountains. The hill was inhabited by a tough and uncivilized race
in its initial years. According to historical evidence, a kingdom was established
fin the beginning by the Katyuris who ruled from Dwarahat in Katurya valley.
During his period, Almora city was a small village without much political significance.

Almora is located In the north Indian state of Uttaranchal.Almora is a fine
blend of mountain beauty.Mountain Resort is situated at an altitude of 2000
meters (6600ft.) above sea level. It is 22kms. by motor road, north of Almora
town.
How To Reach
By Air: Nearest airport is Pantnagar, which is about 125
km away from the heart of Almora. Taxi costs about Rs 1600/ from airport to
Almora. Pantnagar is connected to Delhi on alternate days.
By Road: Buses ply between Almora and Delhi (380 kms.),
Lucknow (466 kms.), Dehradun (415 kms) and other important places.
By Rail: The nearest railway station is at Kathgodam situated around
90 KMs away. Kathgodam is connected by rail directly with Delhi, the capital
of India, Lucknow, the capital of the state of Uttar Pradesh, Dehradun the capital
of the state of Uttaranchal and Calcutta.
